GREETINGS FROM ALL INDIA RAIL SAFETY COUNCIL

Message from Chairman, All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC)

It is my privilege to present RailVidya Children’s Safety Education, an educational wing of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC), dedicated to developing railway-safety awareness, responsible behaviour and a culture of prevention among the children of our nation. RailVidya represents our firm belief that meaningful safety education must begin in childhood, when knowledge, discipline and positive habits can be developed into lifelong values.
India’s railway system is the lifeline of the nation, connecting people, communities, educational institutions, workplaces and economic centres across the country. Every day, millions of passengers—including children and families—use railway stations, platforms, trains, level crossings, foot overbridges and other railway facilities. As our railways continue to expand, modernise and adopt advanced technologies, public awareness and responsible conduct must progress with equal importance. A safe railway is created not only through strong infrastructure and modern systems, but also through informed citizens who understand their responsibilities.
Children are among the most valued members of society, and their safety must remain a national priority. They may encounter railway environments as passengers, students, residents of railway-adjacent communities or participants in educational journeys. It is therefore essential that they understand how to recognise risks, respect warning signs, use authorised crossings, maintain a safe distance from platform edges, avoid trespassing, board and alight responsibly, and seek assistance from authorised personnel whenever necessary.
RailVidya has been envisioned as a structured, inclusive and child-centred educational movement that makes railway-safety knowledge clear, engaging and practical. Through classroom sessions, illustrated learning materials, stories, demonstrations, activity sheets, quizzes, role-play, digital resources and professional interactions, the programme seeks to transform essential safety instructions into memorable learning experiences. Its purpose is not merely to teach rules, but to help children understand why safe behaviour matters and how responsible choices can prevent accidents and protect lives.
I strongly believe that education is one of the most effective and sustainable instruments of accident prevention. Infrastructure can reduce risks and technology can strengthen operational safety, but awareness influences the everyday decisions of individuals. When a child learns to avoid dangerous shortcuts, pay attention to railway warnings and remain disciplined in public transport environments, that child becomes better prepared to protect both personal safety and the safety of others.
Children are also powerful agents of positive change. A safety-conscious child can influence parents, classmates, friends and neighbours by reminding them to follow safe practices. Through RailVidya, we aspire to empower students as Young Rail Safety Ambassadors who will carry the message of prevention from classrooms into homes and communities. In this way, a single learning experience can create a wider circle of awareness and social responsibility.
The success of this national mission requires the collective participation of schools, teachers, parents, railway professionals, government institutions, safety organisations and community leaders. Safety cannot remain the responsibility of one institution or sector alone. It must become a shared public commitment supported by education, cooperation and consistent example. I therefore invite educational institutions throughout India to participate actively in RailVidya and help extend its benefits to children in urban, rural, remote and railway-adjacent communities.
RailVidya also seeks to nurture values that extend beyond railway-safety rules. It encourages discipline, vigilance, compassion, cleanliness, environmental responsibility, respect for railway personnel, care for public property and consideration for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and fellow passengers. These values contribute to the development of socially responsible young citizens who understand that public safety and national assets must be respected and protected collectively.
Our national vision is aligned with the aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047—an India that is safer, stronger, technologically advanced, inclusive and globally respected. As the country moves towards smarter stations, modern trains, advanced signalling, digital passenger services and sustainable mobility, we must ensure that every generation possesses the awareness required to use these systems safely. RailVidya seeks to prepare children not only for the railway journeys of today but also for the intelligent and future-ready transportation environment of tomorrow.
As Chairman of the All India Rail Safety Council, I reaffirm our commitment to advancing railway and metro-safety education, professional knowledge, public awareness, research, innovation and community participation. Our endeavour is to help build a national safety culture in which preventable accidents are addressed through informed behaviour, institutional cooperation and a deep respect for human life.
I call upon schools, educators, parents, railway organisations, public authorities, professionals and responsible citizens to support RailVidya as a national children’s safety-education mission. By working together, we can ensure that essential railway-safety knowledge reaches every child, responsible behaviour becomes a lifelong habit and safety is recognised as a shared national responsibility.
Let us educate young minds today, empower them to make responsible choices and inspire them to become the safety leaders of tomorrow. Through knowledge, discipline and collective action, we can protect lives and contribute to a safer railway future for India.
“Every child we educate today becomes a guardian of safety tomorrow.”
