About RailVidya
Children’s Railway Safety Education Programme

A National Safety-Awareness Initiative of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC)

Educating Young Minds • Building Safe Habits • Protecting Lives • Strengthening the Nation

RailVidya is a visionary national children’s railway safety education programme of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC), established to develop safety awareness, responsible behaviour and civic consciousness among schoolchildren across India. The programme recognises that children are not only the future citizens of the nation but also powerful ambassadors of positive change within their families, schools and communities.

India’s railway network is one of the nation’s greatest lifelines, connecting people, communities, educational institutions, workplaces and economic centres. As railway systems expand through modern stations, metro networks, high-speed mobility and advanced technologies, it is essential that young people understand how to travel safely, behave responsibly and respect railway infrastructure. RailVidya transforms this important knowledge into an engaging and age-appropriate learning experience.

The programme introduces children to essential subjects such as safe behaviour at railway stations and platforms, responsible use of foot overbridges and designated crossings, prevention of track trespassing, electrical safety, safe boarding and alighting, emergency awareness, passenger responsibility and the correct use of railway facilities. It also explains the dangers of unsafe actions—including standing near platform edges, crossing tracks, travelling on footboards, attempting train stunts, touching electrical equipment and spreading misleading railway information through digital media.

RailVidya adopts an inspiring, activity-based and child-friendly educational approach through school awareness sessions, safety demonstrations, interactive presentations, quizzes, exhibitions, competitions, educational publications, digital learning materials and visits to railway-related institutions. By connecting classroom education with practical situations, the programme helps students understand not merely the rules of safety, but also the reasons behind them and the shared responsibility required to protect life.

The vision of RailVidya extends beyond accident prevention. It seeks to cultivate a lasting culture of discipline, alertness, empathy, preparedness and respect for public property. Children are encouraged to become Rail Safety Ambassadors who carry important safety messages from the classroom to their homes and neighbourhoods, creating a multiplier effect that strengthens community awareness throughout the country.

RailVidya also promotes appreciation for India’s rich railway heritage, the contribution of railway employees and the role of engineering, innovation and technology in building safer transportation systems. Exposure to subjects such as modern signalling, artificial intelligence, the indigenous Kavach train-protection system, sustainable mobility and emergency management can inspire young minds to explore future careers in railway engineering, safety, research and public service.

Aligned with the national aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047, Digital India, Make in India, Vision Zero and Net Zero 2070, RailVidya seeks to prepare a knowledgeable and safety-conscious generation for the future of Indian mobility. Its long-term vision is to make railway safety education an accessible and meaningful component of every child’s learning journey—across urban, rural and remote communities.

Through cooperation with schools, educational institutions, railway professionals, government bodies, parents, teachers, safety specialists and community organisations, the All India Rail Safety Council aims to develop RailVidya as a credible national platform for children’s railway safety education. The programme supports the larger national objective of safer journeys, responsible citizenship and inclusive public participation in accident prevention.

RailVidya is more than an educational programme—it is a national movement to protect young lives, empower communities and build a safer railway future. By educating children today, the initiative helps create responsible passengers, informed citizens and future leaders who understand that railway safety is not solely the responsibility of an institution; it is a shared national commitment.
