Vision
The vision of RailVidya Children’s Safety Education is to build a safety-conscious generation in which every child possesses the knowledge, confidence, discipline and sense of responsibility required to remain safe in and around railway environments. As the educational wing of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC), RailVidya aspires to establish railway-safety education as an important component of children’s learning and personal development across India. Through early education and positive behavioural guidance, the programme seeks to nurture informed young citizens who respect safety regulations, recognise potential hazards and contribute actively to safer families, schools and communities.
RailVidya envisions a nation where preventable railway accidents involving children are significantly reduced through accessible, inclusive and age-appropriate education. Its long-term national vision is to create a strong culture of prevention in which safety becomes a lifelong value rather than a temporary instruction. By connecting schools, teachers, parents, railway professionals and community institutions, RailVidya aims to develop a coordinated educational movement that supports the creation of a safer, more responsible and future-ready India.
Mission
The mission of RailVidya is to provide structured, practical and engaging railway-safety education to children through schools, educational institutions and community-based programmes. It is committed to translating essential safety principles into simple, memorable and child-friendly learning experiences through classroom instruction, illustrated materials, demonstrations, storytelling, interactive activities, quizzes, safety campaigns and responsible digital resources.
RailVidya seeks to educate children about safe behaviour at railway stations, on platforms, inside trains, near tracks and at level crossings. The programme promotes the proper use of foot overbridges, subways and authorised crossings; safe boarding and alighting; attention to warning signs and public announcements; avoidance of trespassing, distraction and dangerous shortcuts; and the importance of seeking assistance from authorised personnel during emergencies. Its mission extends beyond teaching rules by helping children understand the reasons behind them and develop the judgement necessary to make safe decisions.
The programme also aims to strengthen cooperation among schools, teachers, parents, railway personnel, safety professionals, civil-society organisations and public authorities. Through this collaborative framework, RailVidya intends to expand safety education across urban, rural and railway-adjacent communities while responding to regional languages, cultural contexts, different age groups and diverse learning needs. Every participating child is encouraged to become a Young Rail Safety Ambassador, capable of sharing responsible practices with family members, classmates and the wider community.
Core Values
Safety First is the foundational value of RailVidya. The protection of children and the prevention of avoidable harm guide every programme, lesson, resource and institutional partnership. RailVidya believes that no journey, convenience or shortcut should ever take priority over human life and personal safety.
Education for Prevention reflects the programme’s conviction that timely knowledge can prevent accidents and save lives. RailVidya promotes proactive education that helps children recognise risks before emergencies occur and transforms safety information into practical, everyday behaviour.
Child-Centred Learning ensures that all educational content is age-appropriate, engaging, respectful and easy to understand. The programme values curiosity, participation and experiential learning, enabling children to ask questions, practise safe responses and develop confidence without fear-based communication.
Responsibility and Discipline are essential to the development of safe citizens. RailVidya encourages children to follow authorised procedures, respect warning systems, remain attentive in public spaces and understand that responsible conduct protects both the individual and the community.
Inclusion and Equal Access express RailVidya’s commitment to reaching children across different regions, languages, social backgrounds and learning abilities. Railway-safety education should be available to every child, including those in rural areas, underserved communities and locations situated close to railway infrastructure.
Integrity and Public Service guide the programme’s educational and institutional conduct. RailVidya is committed to accuracy, transparency, professionalism and responsible communication. Its activities are designed to serve the public interest and uphold the credibility and national purpose of the All India Rail Safety Council.
Partnership and Community Participation recognise that child safety is a shared responsibility. RailVidya encourages meaningful cooperation among students, parents, teachers, educational institutions, railway professionals, government bodies and community organisations to create an environment in which safe behaviour is consistently taught, demonstrated and reinforced.
Respect for Railways and Public Property helps children understand the national importance of railway infrastructure and services. The programme promotes cleanliness, orderly conduct, protection of public assets and respect for railway personnel, fellow passengers, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Innovation and Continuous Learning encourage the responsible use of modern teaching methods, technology, creative media and evidence-based educational practices. RailVidya continually seeks to improve its content and delivery so that railway-safety education remains relevant, engaging and responsive to emerging transportation environments.
Compassion, Preparedness and Leadership inspire children to remain calm, seek appropriate help and support others responsibly during difficult situations. RailVidya nurtures leadership through awareness, empathy and service, empowering young learners to influence their families and communities through positive example.
